The basics

What a cookie actually is

A cookie is a small text file your browser stores when you visit a site. That's it — it's not a program, it can't run anything, and it can't read your files.

They remember choices — like whether you've dismissed the cookie banner.
They keep sessions working — so a half-filled form doesn't vanish on a refresh.
They can measure traffic — anonymised counts of which pages get visited.

Cookies can't identify you personally on their own — they identify a browser. Your name only enters the picture when you type it into a form.

Cookies we set — all of them

The complete inventory. If it's not in this table, we don't set it.

Essential

Session cookies that keep navigation and forms working, plus your cookie-consent choice (gm-cookie-consent, stored 12 months). The site breaks without these — no opt-out, sorry.

Analytics

Anonymised page-view stats so we know which trips people read about. No cross-site tracking, no ad profiles. Decline on the banner and these never load.

Embedded content

The Google Map on the contacts page may set its own cookies once you interact with it — that's Google, not us. Their policy applies from that point.

What we don't do: no remarketing pixels, no social trackers, no fingerprinting, no selling data. Declining cookies costs you nothing — every page still works.

Third parties

Cookies set by other services

Two external pieces of this site can set their own cookies:

Google Maps (contacts page) — may set preferences cookies when you pan or zoom the map.
Fonts & libraries (CDN assets) — typically don't set cookies, but their providers log standard request data like any web server.

We don't control third-party cookies — blocking them in your browser is the reliable switch if you'd rather they didn't exist.

Your controls

How to switch them off

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies. Doing it here won't break the site — the banner just asks again next visit.

Banner choice — tap "No thanks" on the consent banner and optional cookies never load.
Chrome / Edge — Settings → Privacy → Cookies and site data → delete or block.
Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
Safari — Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
Mobile — same idea inside the browser app's privacy settings.

Fresh start

Deleting cookies clears your consent choice — the banner will pop up again so you can pick freshly.

Keeping current

When this policy changes

The date at the top of this page always shows the live version.
If we add a new type of cookie, the banner asks again — no silent upgrades.
Older versions aren't published, but ask and we'll tell you what changed.
